Proposed Guidelines for Player and Spectator Safety

All guidelines below have been developed based upon recommendations from and in collaboration with Public Health Madison & Dane County but are subject to change.

Additional Waiver

The Additional Waiver is required before any player is allowed to practice.

Phase 1 - Practices Begin

  1. Families should not arrive at the fields more than 10 minutes ahead of their designated practice time. Families should plan on staying in their vehicle until the start of practice to avoid overcrowding of spectator spaces and walkways.

  2. VAGSA will schedule sufficient time between practices to facilitate the complete evacuation of individuals from previous practices from the premises before the next group enters. It is the expectation that players/families will leave the fields within 10 minutes upon the completion of practice.

  3. All spectators should follow best social distancing practices — stay six feet away from individuals outside their household; wear appropriate PPE as necessary; avoid direct hand or other contact with players and coaches during play.

To minimize the exposure risk to spectators we are asking that attendance at practice be limited to only coaches, players, and family members.  Spectators should bring their own seating or portable chairs.  A spectator with any of the following conditions should not attend a practice until evaluated by a medical provider and given clearance to do so:

     - Active COVID-19 infection
     - Known direct contact with an individual testing positive for COVID-19
     - Fever
     - Cough

  4. Only coaches and players will be allowed on the field of play.

  5. Coaches and players will sanitize their hands before and after practice as well as any time they touch a piece of shared equipment.

  6. Players will follow social distancing guidelines, if they are unable to maintain social distancing after being reminded by a coach they will be asked to leave practice.

  7. Players and coaches should take measures to prevent all but the essential contact necessary to practice.

  8. Players will keep all of their individual equipment in their own space, 6 feet from other players equipment.  This includes their own water bottle labeled with the player's name, and a helmet.  If a player does not have a helmet VAGSA has some inventory that will be sanitized and given out. The player should keep this helmet for the duration of the season and is responsible for sanitizing it regularly.

  9. Some critical equipment may not be able to be obtained by every individual. When it is necessary to share critical or limited equipment, all surfaces of each piece of shared equipment must be cleaned first and then disinfected with an EPA-approved disinfectant against COVID-19 and allowed sufficient time to dry before used by a new player.

  10. There will be no shared beverage or food allowed.

Phase TBD - Games Can Be Played

At this time no guidelines have been determined by the PHMDC.  We will be updating this very soon.
